- Our hotel is located 20 feet from the world famous Powell Street cable car line & our rooms were completely restored January 1999.The Cartwright Hotel is San Francisco's original boutique hotel built in 1913.We offer the best value in Union Square & include a daily wine service with all stays.Our hotel is Victorian in style & completely furnished in antiques throughout the Lobby level & guestrooms.We have 114 guestrooms five of which are suites. We have two meeting rooms on property that can accommodate 5-100 people of a reception or a business conference. We also have a library on the Lobby level that is open for all guests to watch televsion, read or play a game of chess. Our concierge can help make dinner & tour reservations & provide you with city information. Our multilingual staff can assist you in a variety of languages.

The Cartwright Hotel has three Two Bedroom Suites & two One Bedroom Suites on property. Our Two Bedroom Suites are ideal for families featuring one room with a Queen size bed & a second room with two Twin beds sharing one bathroom. Our one Bedroom Suites feature one room with a Queen size bed & a Parlor room with a Queen pull-out sofa bed with one bathroom. Both suites are equipped with data port phones, Primestar Satellite TV's with Nintendo games & pay-per-view movies on demand & fully stocked honor bars. All of our suites have been renovated & are situated on the northwest side of the building looking out on the surrounding streets below. Driving Directions:
- Airport: Exit airport. Take 101 Highway North. As you approach the City, stay in the "Bay Bridge-Interstate 80" lane. Take the "4th Street - Last San Francisco" exit. Go straight through the signal, and then slightly veer left onto Bryant Street. Continue on Bryant Street for one block, turning left onto 3rd Street. Go five (5) blocks on 3rd Street, crossing Market Street. 3rd Street becomes Kearny Street after crossing Market Street. Continue on Kearny Street for 2 more blocks and turn left onto Sutter Street. Continue on Sutter Street for 3 blocks. Hotel is located on right hand side just past Powell Street. Look for green awning for hotel entrance at 524 Sutter Street. Airport is approximately 17 miles from the hotel.
- East Bay Bridge: Cross the Bay Bridge. Take the first exit off the right hand side of the bridge, which is the Fremont Street Exit. Take Fremont Street exit and follow it until it ends at Fremont Street. Turn Left. Go 2 blocks, then turn left onto Howard Street. Go 3 blocks then turn right onto 3rd Street. Go five (5) blocks on 3rd Street, crossing Market Street. 3rd Street becomes Kearny Street after crossing Market Street. Continue on Kearny Street for 2 more blocks and turn left onto Sutter Street. Continue on Sutter Street for 3 blocks. Hotel is located on right hand side just past Powell Street. Look for green awning for hotel entrance at 524 Sutter Street.
- Golden Gate Bridge: Cross the Golden Gate Bridge, which is also Highway 101 South. Take the Lombard Street Exit; continue for 14 blocks. Turn right onto Van Ness Avenue; continue for 14 blocks to Bush Street. Turn left onto Bush Street; continue for 8 blocks to Powell Street. Turn right onto Powell Street; continue for 1 block downhill. Turn right onto Sutter Street. Hotel is located on right hand side just past Powell Street. Look for green awning for hotel entrance at 524 Sutter Street.
- San Jose: Take Highway 280 North. Exit on 6th Street. Continue through signal for one block to Folsom Street. Turn right onto Folsom Street. Continue for 3 blocks and turn left onto 3rd Street. Go five (5) blocks on 3rd Street, crossing Market Street. 3rd Street becomes Kearny Street after crossing Market Street. Continue on Kearny for 2 more blocks and turn left onto Sutter Street.
